The Shangri La was above and beyond our expectations! The house is beautiful and the ocean/sunset view is breathtaking. All the amenities provided made very convenient for our large group. This was our first trip to the Bahamas and I am so pleased we found this house to stay in. Many thanks and we look forward to visiting again in the future! Kathie- Scottsdale, AZ

Located at Arawak Cay, an eclectic mix of Bahamian cuisine and a popular spot for locals. Great people watching. There are several small restaurants that make up this area—-try Seafood Haven, Fish Fry, or Twin Brothers. Grouper is a well liked favorite. Lunch served as well.

Visit Senior Frogs !!!!! Fun place for Happy Hour or late night dancing……… downtown Nassau on the waterfront. Upside down margaritas are flowing. You may even get a tattoo as you enter. Party atmosphere and tunes crank. Bars seem to come and go but found a fun spot for live music and rock n roll just East of PI Bridge called Crazy Johnny’s. Caught some live reggae music at a local joint nearby as well………Hammerheads.

Getting around Nassau doesn’t necessarily require renting a vehicle. The jitneys (or commuter buses) are a great way to get to and from destinations. They run daily from 6 AM to 6:00 PM along Bay Street. Cost of a ride is only $1 and you can catch the #10 right in front of Shangri La. Just say “Bus Stop Please” and they will stop anywhere along their route into downtown Nassau. They do not, however, cross over the bridge to Paradise Island and don’t go as far West as Lyford Cay. Another great way to see more of the inner Island is to hire a taxi service for a few hours for a city tour and learn more of the history of the Bahamas. Cabs are abundant but do get pricy if you are in and about several times a day. Take a ferry ride from downtown Nassau over to Paradise Island (cost is $3 per person) but they stop running at 6 PM.

Roll the dice, place your bets, get lucky at the penny, quarter or $1 slots. There are two casinos in Nassau. The Crystal Palace/Sheraton Casino is located in the Cable Beach area. Atlantis Casino (a bit larger in size) is located across the bridge on Paradise Island.

If you love waterparks and pool activity, a non-guest day pass is available for $105/Kids $75. Scope out the huge yachts docked at Marina Village. Excellent photo opp at the Big Chair. The Dig/Aquarium is cool to cruise thru–huge stingrays in the tank. Normally tickets sell for $25-$35 but if you go later in the evening, you can usually go in for free.

Take the Bo Hengy Ferry over to Harbour Island (about a 2 hr ride) to see breathtaking pink sandy beaches. Rent a golf cart to get around the Island. Lunch or a cocktail at The Sip Sip restaurant on the waterfront. Worth a trip to The Lone Tree for a photo opp.

Take a mini walking tour around downtown Nassau visiting Parliament Square, The Queen’s Staircase, and Fort Charlotte. Or if shopping suits your fancy, there are tons of duty free shops along East Bay Street featuring bargains on designer goods. Or for the real bargain hunter, browse through the main straw market at the waterfront.

A must—–savor the locally brewed beer, Kalik. Rum drinks abundant. Try da yellowbird, bahama mama, or a goombay smash.
